Canon XA35 Full HD AVCHD/MP4 to Avid
Summary: This article is about how to transcode AVCHD/MP4 files to Avid Media Composer. You will get Canon XA35 AVCHD/MP4 files editable by Avid after reading it.
Many Canon XA35 users want to edit Full HD footage in Avid Media Composer on Mac. However, they always have various problem with importing or editing the footage. The content quoted below is an example.
I'm running El Capitan and upgrade Avid MC to 7.0.3. In the past, running Mountain Lion and MC 7.0.0, I had no trouble with Full HD AVCHD footage I shot on my Canon XA35. Now for some reason it doesn't work. As soon as I try to play them or transcode from within MC, it freezes and I have to force quit. Has anyone else had this issue?
I believe there are many more similar issues on the forum. Before giving the solution to the issue, let’s figure out the reason. AVCHD is a file-based format for the digital recording and suitable for recording full high-definition videos. However, AVCHD format is not proper for editing by Avid Media Composer, so the editing window would freeze. The most suitable video format for Avid Media Composer is DNxHD(*.mov).
Here I suggest you a free solution to edit Canon XA35 AVCHD files in Avid Media Composer smoothly.
Do a complete wipe and reinstall of your apple operating system - something you don’t want to do. Then reinstall Avid Media Composer 7.0.3 manually.
If you don’t want to do the work above, I recommend an excellent AVCHD converter for you - Pavtube Video Converter for Mac.
